Biogaz du Multien is located in the Seine-et-Marne Département in Île-de-France. It inaugurated its anaerobic digestion unit in the presence of: Hamida Rezeg, Meaux regional elected representative and Vice-President responsible for tourism, and the Île-de-France Environmental Development Plan (SDRIF); Jérémie Almosni, Regional Director of the Île-de-France Agency for the Environment and Energy Management (ADEME); and Frédéric Moulin, GRTgaz Regional Delegate for the Val-de-Seine region.

Biogaz du Multien* is the sixth anaerobic digestion unit connected to the GRTgaz transmission network in Île-de-France, and the twenty-eighth for the whole of the region's gas networks. Biomethane produced by Biogaz du Multien comes from intermediate energy crops and plant residues (beet pulp, silo waste, etc.). An anaerobic digestion unit produces 15 GWh of biomethane per year, i.e. the equivalent annual consumption of 1,500 gas-heated households, as well as 60 bioNGV-powered buses.

Biogaz de Multien is represented by project leaders Arnaud Rousseau, Jérôme Garnier, Charles-Auguste Benoist, Jean-Baptiste Benoist and Pascal Meheut.

What is anaerobic digestion?

Anaerobic digestion is a process that produces biomethane, a 100 % renewable gas, by fermenting organic matter from agricultural by-products and waste. Once purified, it can be injected into the gas networks and used in the same way as natural gas (heating, cooking, etc.) or in low-carbon mobility as fuel for vehicles and HGVs. This 100% renewable fuel is called bioNGV.

Produced locally, this non-intermittent energy is easy to store and offers many benefits for the region, including local waste recovery, land planning, agricultural development and job creation.

This anaerobic digestion project has received financial support from the Île-de-France region under the Regional Anaerobic Digestion Development Strategy, with subsidies of 9.5% of the amount invested, as well as financial support in the amount of 7.5% from the French Agency for the Environment and Energy Management (ADEME) as part of its sectoral support policies implemented on behalf of the State.
