Report on the Call for Expression of Interest (CEI) on pyrogasification for injection into the gas network

A total of 49 projects were submitted in France: presentation of the results and related documentation.

As part of the “New Energy Systems” Sector Strategy Committee, GRTgaz launched a Call for Expressions of Interest (CEI) from 28 February to 29 April 2022 on pyrogasification for injection into the gas network, for the recovery of solid waste as renewable and low-carbon gas.

This CEI aimed to assess the current state of the sector, identify French projects, consolidate and share a joint vision for the public authorities and industry stakeholders, as well as support project owner with access conditions to the network and financing. 49 renewable and low-carbon gas production projects responded to the CEI and submitted a dossier. The projects were spread across the whole of France, with 11 out of 13 regions represented. 19 of the projects are in the development stages.

The vast majority of planned inputs are mainly grade “B” waste wood and clean biomass (sawmill wood waste, green waste, etc.).

Support for project owners

GRTgaz offers support to project owners applying to the scheme (local authorities, waste unions, project developers, etc.). These applicants are offered advice, in particular about network access conditions and financing.

A step-by-step overview followed by a full summary will be send to the Ministry of the Energy Transition. Project owners will receive a summary of the CEI during summer 2022.
