European Sustainable Development Week

From 3 to 7 June 2019, GRTgaz, the manager of the French gas transmission network, plans a programme of events to illustrate its actions promoting biodiversity as part of European Sustainable Development Week. This year, thematic workshops designed by GRTgaz employees in partnership with local associations will be open to the press at several sites, starting with Bois-Colombes (head office).

Conference-debate on the theme of biodiversity in the world today, with Gilles Bœuf, Professor of Biology at Sorbonne University, visiting professor at the Collège de France, and former President of the National Natural History Museum on Monday 3 June at 1:30 pm at the IBM Amphitheatre, 17 avenue de l’Europe, Bois-Colombes, France.

  • Anaerobic digestion composting techniques and waste recycling
An event highlighting the impact of global warming on biodiversity and the solutions offered by anaerobic digestion as part of the energy transition. The composting and waste recycling workshop will be presented in partnership with “La Manufacturette”, an association committed to raising awareness of housing-related ecological alternatives.
  • Maintenance of GRTgaz easements and introduction to permaculture gardening
Focus on the “zero phyto” (zero use of phytosanitary products) approach for the maintenance of GRTgaz easement strips, and the compensatory measures that the company implements around its structures and projects.
In addition, the association "On the green road" will offer a permaculture gardening workshop. This will be an introduction to identifying complementary plants to replace the use of now-prohibited phytosanitary products.
  • GRTgaz and Regional Nature Parks (PNR): a long-standing partnership
Since 2010, GRTgaz has been working with the French Federation of Regional Nature Parks on energy transition, biodiversity and environmental education. Nine agreements have been concluded locally with regional nature parks, and others are being negotiated.
  • How can you water your plants better with oyas?
A workshop to create oyas (micro-porous ceramic pots that both save water while meeting the plant’s water needs) in partnership with the association “La Manufacturette”. You will learn about an ingenious ecological watering system. Oyas are manufactured exclusively in France by potters.
  • Awareness raising about the role of pollinators and insects A workshop dedicated to the importance of pollinators and insects in the production of fruit and vegetables.
GRTgaz will present its practical actions to help the ecosystem develop, in particular by setting up beehives and “insect hotels” near its facilities. This workshop will be co-hosted by Apigaz, an association made up of GRTgaz employees and volunteers to maintain beehives and swarms.

1 Easement strips: these denote a strip of land that the pipe passes through and where vegetation must be controlled. GRTgaz has therefore adapted its practices to protect biodiversity and avoid the use of phytosanitary products, in particular by redeveloping the station floor space, new mowing techniques, vegetation, manual or mechanical weed control, etc.
