Discussions to promote the acceptability of anaerobic digestion projects

In 2021, a working group was set up within the “New Energy Systems” Sector Strategy Committee to improve the local take-up of anaerobic digestion projects. Energy experts, regional and local authorities, Chambers of Agriculture, NGOs.. all concerned stakeholders are involved.

The working group is a space for discussion and shared experienced about the mechanisms in place. It aims to better understand project owners’ societal conditions, to promote good cooperation practices, and to maximise the value of anaerobic digestion.

The topic is also being addressed on the ground: the French Directorates of the Environment, Land-Use Planning, and Housing (DREAL),the Auvergne-Rhône Alpes Energy and Environment Agency (AURA-EE) and GRTgaz are concluding a diagnostic assessment and regional recommendations to provide better support for project owners and to improve the local take-up of anaerobic digestion facilities.
