soNews No.5 in summary: October 2022

This is a new step in the ecological transition. From 7 July, all renewable gas – not only biomethane – can enter the register of eligible capacities under the Right to Injection. The register guarantees the transparency and non-discrimination of requests to access the gas networks by treating all injection projects on a “first come, first serve” basis.

GRTgaz has just launched a call for tenders to study the construction, development and operation of a pipeline-based hydrogen transmission network in Dunkirk – a pioneering low-carbon urban area. All of the region's hydrogen production and consumption project owners are invited to express their interest.

Olivier Dauger – farmer, Energy-Climate contact person for the National Federation of Agricultural Holders' Unions (FNSEA), and co-president of the non-profit organisation France Gaz Renouvelables – shares his thoughts on this hot topic and the role of agriculture in French biogas production.

GRTgaz issued an update on changes to the network flows and its forecasts for winter 2022-2023. In spite of the consequences of the war in Ukraine, the French gas system should be able to meet demand if reserves are managed carefully and efforts made to control consumption.

French authorities have given the green light to a unique project: the proposed installation of a new LNG import point in Le Havre using a Floating Storage and Regasification Unit (FSRU). The unit will be operational from September 2023, increasing France's gas import capacities by 45 TWh per year.

GRTgaz and the engineering higher education institution Mines Paris-PSL have decided to collaborate on hydrogen research. Over five years, they will work together at Défi H, a joint laboratory dedicated to studying the effects of hydrogen on structural materials.
