Implementing energy planning services in the regions

The Nantes Regional Urban Planning Agency (AURAN) and GRTgaz share a common concern: planning ahead to anticipate the regions’ energy futures.

In 2021, both stakeholders set up an experimental laboratory, named Lab’Auran.
“Our goal is to carry out cross-sectional analyses to clarify regional public policies for gas issues within the medium- and long-term energy mix, for scopes consistent with network operations in the Pays de la Loire and Brittany regions,” summarises Émeline Drouet, GRTgaz Chargée de Mission for the Energy Transition.

“In particular, these works will allow us to assess the future role of renewable gas at a local level by specifying the respective contributions of the biomethane and hydrogen production sectors.”

An in-depth analysis cycle was undertaken based on three issues across five target areas: Data (creation of a reference framework of new regional gas indicators); Forecasting (producing local energy scenarios for 2050); and Short Supply Chain (operational analysis of implementation levers for the local consumption loop). “In particular, these works will allow us to assess the future role of renewable gas at a local level by specifying the respective contributions of the biomethane and hydrogen production sectors,” explains Guilhem Andrieu, Head of Energy Research at AURAN.
