Renewal of the partnership between GRTgaz and the French Federation of Regional Natural Parks

29/05/2013

GRTgaz and the French Federation of Regional Natural Parks are extending their partnership supporting biodiversity, environmental education, and the energy transition.

On Wednesday 29 May, GRTgaz and the Federation of Regional Natural Parks announced that the term of their partnership had been renewed for another three years. Jean-Louis Joseph, President of the Federation of Regional Natural Parks, and Thierry Trouvé, Managing Director of GRTgaz, signed this new agreement (2013-2015) to continue their work in accounting for both gas pipelines, which act as energy vectors, and land-related issues.

During this extension period, the Federation and GRTgaz, whose partnership began in 2010, seek to further pursue a dialogue primarily concerning three topics:

  • the energy transition;
  • biodiversity;
  • and environmental education.

Each year, a detailed action plan will be developed to make these commitments a reality.

Participants in the agreement

GRTgaz, which is committed to preserving biodiversity, has already planned to continue supporting the National Flowering Prairie Competition held in national and regional natural parks. This event, which GRTgaz has supported since it began in 2010, awards farms whose natural prairies feature the best balance between agricultural and ecological value.

This national partnership will also continue to be implemented on a local level. In recent years, seven agreements were signed between GRTgaz regional units and the Regional Natural Parks of Brenne, Brière, Alpilles, Lorraine, Vexin Français, Avesnois, and Vosges du Nord.

These agreements provide for concrete actions to support biodiversity and sustainable development. For example, GRTgaz and the Natural Park of Vosges du Nord have installed "smart" hives that allow authorities to collect precise data on the floristic and phytosociological diversity of the regions studied.

Thierry Trouvé, Managing Director of GRTgaz, stated:
"I'm happy that GRTgaz and the French Federation of Regional Natural Parks are continuing the work they started three years ago. The Parks have extensive experience with looking at energy issues from a land-oriented perspective. For a developer involved in the energy and ecological transition, such as GRTgaz, this partnership is an important asset, as it helps us to better account for the needs of the environment around our facilities and to continue improving the way they integrate with their natural surroundings."

Jean-Louis Joseph, President of the Federation of Regional Natural Parks, added:
"I am happy that the focus of this partnership is on the energy transition, which now more than ever lies at the heart of development decisions made in the Parks. It's about giving everyone the means —particularly through our public awareness campaign — to take part in the energy and ecological transition, which should be looked on as a source of hope, which will allow us to meet the current and future challenges of our society."
