Creation of a 'Gas Economy' Chair: an alliance between universities and industrial

Thursday 20 October, François Levêque, Professor at MINES ParisTech university announced the launch of a 'Gas Economy' Chair at a conference on 'Gas in energy transitions'.

This Chair, overseen by MINES ParisTech, Paris-Dauphine University, IFP School and Toulouse School of Economics, is dedicated exclusively to the gas economy, in order to remedy the lack of academic research in the field. EDF, GRTgaz and Total are committed to providing their support to the Chair's work until the end of 2020 to strengthen cooperation with industrial companies in the sector and to make a success of the energy transition.

The 'Gas Economy' Chair will favour 3 avenues of research: the place of gas in the energy transition in Europe; detailed understanding of the European regulation; analysing and processing market and routing data. These subjects should shed worthwhile light on the public decision on the expected changes to the energy mix in France. With the development of new uses (industry, mobility, etc.), the rising power of renewable gas resources, and not forgetting the essential synergy between gas and renewable electricity production, the gas industry must be prepared to undergo a true revolution.

MINES ParisTech, Paris-Dauphine University, IFP School and Toulouse School of Economics have developed a policy of scientific excellence in the energy economy and have internationally-recognised scientific capabilities. The Chair will make it possible to promote and facilitate teaching about the gas economy in France's different higher education establishments. From a scientific viewpoint, the aim of the Chair is to promote work intended for publication in the best international journals.
