ARF and GRTgaz join forces to meet the challenge of the energy transition in the regions

On 14 September, Philippe Richert, President of the Association des Régions de France (ARF), and Thierry Trouvé, CEO of GRTgaz, signed a partnership agreement covering the 2016-2018 period.

GRTgaz, the leading gas transmission operator in France, will place at ARF’s disposal its knowledge of the energy markets and expertise of energy systems. Joint brainstorming sessions and good practices will be developed so that ARF can subsequently relay them to regional elected representatives. This partnership is an asset for the Regions and will facilitate the energy transition in the different localities, while at the same time reflecting on policies in favour of economic development and employment in this field.

Gas is a resource of the future at the service of the energy policies (renewable gases, energy storage, etc.) and mobility policies (Natural Gas for Vehicles) across the country. Natural gas and renewable gases are efficient sources of energy that help increase the economic and environmental performances of industrialists and haulage professionals. The local delegates of GRTgaz will be the preferential contacts to support the Regions in their planning exercises (SRADDET, SRDEII, biomass schema, waste plan, etc.) and promote the advantages of fuel gas and gas for vehicles in a national renewable energy system which optimises the development of renewable energies (electricity and gas).

Since 1st January 2016 and the implementation of the NOTRe law, the Regions have become the pilots of the employment, training and economic development policies within their territory. The partnership agreement between ARF and GRTgaz is intended to favour employment by allowing a better match between requirements and vacancies, in particular by supporting young people through training for the technical occupations of the gas industry.

GRTgaz is partner of the 12th ARF congress, which will be held on 29 September 2016 at the conference centre in Reims.
