EducEco Challenge 2017

1st GRTgaz Trophy' to promote Vehicle Natural BioGas in mobility

GRTgaz and the French Association for the Development of Educative Evidence for Eco-mobility (AD3E) is creating the 'GRTgaz Trophy' for vehicles falling into the Vehicle Natural BioGas category of the EducEco Challenge, which will take place from 19 to 21 May Valenciennes Hainaut stadium (Nord region). This trophy aims to promote gas mobility and to raise the awareness of young generations to the environmental advantages of this fuel. 

As part of energy transition, GRTgaz is fully committed to the development of mobility using Vehicle Natural Gas and Vehicle Natural BioGas. Vehicle Natural BioGas - biomethane produced by fermenting organic matter – improves air quality and helps in the fight against climate change. Compared to oil-based fuels, Vehicle Natural BioGas offers very significant reductions in CO2 emissions: it emits half as much nitrogen oxide and practically no particles. Vehicle Natural BioGas is positioned as an alternative fuel essential to energy transition. To encourage the industrial use of this alternative fuel, GRTgaz is involved in leading the sector and supporting project sponsors wishing to invest in filling stations.

GRTgaz will open the 'BioGAZ LAB', a fun educational space open to everyone, on the competition site, in collaboration with members of the Comité d’Orientation Régional du Biométhane Injecté (CORBI - Injected Biomethane Orientation Committee) in the Hauts-de-France region. GRTgaz will also offer a televised newsletter - 'GRTgaz Trophy bulletin' - broadcast live on the GRTgaz YouTube1 channel. It will allow viewers to follow the progress of competitors and to listen to reports by those taking the road to clean mobility.

For the 1st 'GRTgaz Trophy', GRTgaz and AD3E are providing technical expertise and financial support to 4 teams enrolled in the Vehicle Natural BioGas category:

UrbanEcoLib biomethane, a prototype urban vehicle developed by the Lycée Frédéric Ozanam in Cesson-Sévigné (Ille-et-Vilaine), will perform free trials using Vehicle Natural BioGas, throughout the EducEco Challenge.  

The EducEco Challenge 2017 challenges 50 teams of Lycée pupils and students to design, build and drive the most energy-efficient vehicles possible. Beyond the technical performance, which consists of using the least fuel possible, this event is stimulating the creativity of 1,000 young Europeans in France, Germany, Greece and the United Kingdom.
