GRTgaz'S PRESENTATION
GRTgaz is a public limited company created on January 1, 2005 as required under the Second European Directive on Energy, translated into French law by the law of August 9, 2004 on Public Electricity and Gas Service and Electricity and Gas Companies.
GRTgaz’s function is to transport natural gas at the request of shippers to the Public Distribution Systems and to consumers (industrial customers), and to support the opening up of the natural gas market by playing a leading role in the development of a free competitive market between natural gas suppliers.
Within the GDF SUEZ Group, GRTgaz operates and markets the natural gas transmission system in France, with the exception of South-West France, where the system is operated by TIGF.
This means that GRTgaz operates 32,000 km of steel pipelines and 25 compressor stations.
Natural gas storage does not fall within the ambit of GRTgaz, but of Storengy.
GRTgaz conducts its business independently, with a permanent policy of non-discrimination among the different natural gas suppliers.
As of today, GRTgaz has 50 shippers as customers and provides natural gas to more than 900 customers (mostly industrial concerns).
GRTgaz, a subsidiary company of GDF SUEZ, is a member of the GTE, an association to which most of Europe’s main gas transmission operators belong.
