Your access to our network

How to connect to our network?

Do you want to supply a new public distribution system with natural gas or further strengthen the existing distribution network by creating a new supply point from the natural gas transmission network? GRTgaz supports you throughout your network connection project.

Connecting you to the transmission network means providing connection facilities to supply your site with natural gas. The network connection facilities comprise one or more branch connections and several delivery points. In application of Articles L.111-19 and L.111-48 of the French Energy Code, GRTgaz is the owner of the connection facilities

Two types of project are defined for a new connection: so-called 'base-case' projects and 'other cases' projects that deal with specific requirements.

Connection information
GRTgaz carries out a feasibility study based on your preliminary statement of needs and delivers a report on the connection.
The study is non-binding and carried out free of charge. It gives you access to budget costs and a provisional schedule for your network connection project.

The Connection Studies consist of feasibility studies and basic studies. When these are complete, GRTgaz sends you a connection proposal.
In some circumstances, this stage may be carried out as a single phase.

The feasibility studies begin once the feasibility studies agreement has been signed.

These studies are invoiced and must be paid for at the time they are carried out. When they are complete, GRTgaz will send you a feasibility report. This report is valid for six months and includes three elements:

  • a binding estimate of the cost of the connection facilities, given as a range,
  • an estimated schedule for the works,
  • the features of the connection facilities.

The basic studies begin after the signing of the connection studies agreement. These studies are invoiced. When they are complete, GRTgaz will send you a connection and injection proposal, which is valid for 6 months. This constitutes a final commercial offer. This proposal contains the price, completion schedule and specifications for the network connection facilities, as well as their operating and maintenance conditions.

The connection contract comprises:

  • General Terms & Conditions applicable to all connection contracts,
  • Special Terms & Conditions setting out the specific features of your contract, such as the specifications of the branch connection and delivery point, the date for introducing gas into connection facilities, delivery commitments made by GRTgaz (delivery pressure, flow rate, etc.), as well as the price of connection contract services.

The connection contract generally lasts for ten years after the date of signature. Thereafter, the contract is subject to annual tacit renewal.

After signing the connection contract, GRTgaz submits the official application to the regional authorities or relevant French ministry.

After construction and operating permits have been obtained, GRTgaz constructs the connection facilities and introduces the gas supply. The connection facilities comprise one or more branch connections and several delivery points.

The Branch connection refers to the transport structure providing the link between the main network or the regional network, as appropriate, and the delivery point(s).

For the ‘base case’, a fixed priced applies to the construction of the branch connection, based on its diameter. In 'other cases', prices are set by quotation. It is included in the price for providing connection facilities.

The delivery point refers to the facility located at the downstream end of the transmission network. It contributes to ensuring that the delivery conditions meet the needs you expressed, particularly in terms of pressure and flow rate. It is also equipped with devices dedicated to metering, remote surveillance and filtration.

Scope of the delivery point fixed pricing structure for distrubitors

In the "base case", a delivery point fixed pricing structure is applied according to the flow rate.

The delivery point fixed price includes fitting and assembling the delivery point in situ, including fitting one or two pressure-reducing lines.
In "other cases", prices are set by quotation.

The price for constructing the delivery point is included in the price for providing connection facilities.

The so-called “Routing utility service” consists of connecting the delivery point to the electrical grid and the public telephone network via a dedicated line.

The price is set by quotation.

For "base cases", a fixed pricing structure is applied to civil engineering works (building permits, land preparation, etc.) according to the flow rate range of the delivery point. In "other cases", prices are set by quotation.
