Works next to the pipeline: more about the process and regulation

Whether you establish a work site as an individual company or as a sub-contractor, you are legally obliged to check the single service point prior to works commencing.

This government platform allows you to find out the locations of existing networks and complete any declaration procedures.

How do you make a declaration on the single service point?

  • After having identified yourself on the platform, you must outline the location of your proposed work site on an IGN underground map.
  • The site will then list the network operators affected by your project and gives you access to pre-filled DICT forms. You must send a DICT to each network operator affected by your proposed works, as well as a map showing the extent of the impact with its georeferenced details.
If you are also the contracting agent, you can fill in a joint DT/DICT works declaration.
These can be sent by post or email.
  • GRTgaz, as all other network operators, in principle has 9 days to get back to you. This deadline can be extended to 14 days when the DICT is sent by post.
Responses from GRTgaz will contain maps detailing the locations of sections of their network and technical recommendations for carrying out your work in the safest way possible.

If there is no response from GRTgaz, send us your DICT again by registered post. Our high-pressure natural gas pipelines can pose a serious risk if they are damaged.
Do not under any circumstances start your work without receiving a reply from us.

You can perform these steps on the online site Protys.

What should I do if the work needs to be carried out urgently?

Some work that is justified for reasons of safety, avoiding interruptions in public service, safeguarding people or property and force majeure may be carried out as an emergency.

The contractor must then consult the single service point www.reseaux-et-canalisations.gouv.fr to to know the emergency numbers for the network operators most likely to have safety implications and contact these numbers before beginning work on site. In the event that the GRTgaz network passes nearby, you must not carry out any work without authorisation from the GRTgaz representative.
